Is it neglect if your child some how gets two finger nails ripped off at daycare and the teacher does nothing?

Yes! I would go crazy if that was my child! they should have contacted you immediately and given the child first aid! If it was left untreated it could get seriously infected! And i'd be questioning how exactly it happened! Is it neglect if your child some how gets two finger nails ripped off at daycare and the teacher does nothing?
I have a feeling I am not hearing the entire story.

If you have a child in someone's care, and that his/her/its business, that person has an obligation to provide a safe environment and take reasonable cautions from injury. When someone does not do this, it is called negligence.

If someone does get injured (for whatever reason), the care giver is obligated to take necessary steps to minimize the risk to the child. That usually means calling parents and either performing first aid, taking or calling a medical facility to render the necessary care.

If none of these things happened, that is negligence at minimum.

Now, if the injury and the case of the injury was so far fetched no one in reasonable mind can foresee it happening, then the injury itself is not negligent. It is called an accident.

It is hard to believe child with finger nails ripped off, blood dripping, and screaming, caught no attention. What happened next?

Were you called? What do you mean by ';does nothing?'; Told the child to be quiet?

Again, I don't think I have the entire picture. Is it neglect if your child some how gets two finger nails ripped off at daycare and the teacher does nothing?
I know that a daycare must report the incident (usually in a form that you are supposed to sign). If you think something negligent occurred, I suggest to get to the bottom of the situation. Where did the accident occur, and what is the child reporting. Also, review the teacher if at all possible and if necessary, you can report the daycare. I have worked in a daycare and have seen how these ';teachers'; can really mistreat children.

If a situation like this has never occurred, maybe the child was hurt during recess or some other contact situation. It is hard to supervise that many children, during these times and accidents are more likely to occur.

I hope all is well with the child, and I do hope those fingers heal. It sounded like a pretty painful accident.

Good Luck.
ummm yeah I definitely think so. The teacher should be always watching out for the kids, I mean what could your kid be doing to get his finger nails ripped off, you'd think the teacher would be like stop, don't do that, depending on what he was doing. Personally, I think you should take your child out of this daycare system, and go elsewhere. or better yet leave him with a friend or family member when you can't be with him, that way your most likely saving your money, and you can trust that he will be in good care. I hope your child's fingers feel better and good luck.
Were the two nails ripped at one day or different times? If you noticed it, why didn't you ask the teacher? You probably didn't notice it til later right? unfortunately hands and feet are the less noticable when it comes to noticing scratches or injuries. Is your child old enough to talk and tell teh teacher he/she was hurt, if so? ask the child what the teacher do about it? or if he/she went to the teacher about it.

Also, were the nails long enough to be ripped out? If so, then you need to make sure they are trimmed short so they don't have the risk of being ripped out. When you pick up your child, is the teacher detailed over what your child did that day? Are there any signs that your child doesn't want to attend daycare, such as crying and refusing to go, cringe when you get too close to him/her? Best thing is to go there unannounce and see how the environment is. If the teacher doesn't like you to do that, then I'd move your child to somewhere else that allows suprised visits.
I think we need more information before we jump to the conclusion that it's considered neglect. What do you mean by the finger nails ripped off...torn at the end (we all have that happen to us), fake nails- which a preschool child probably shouldn't have anyway, or completely off...which would cause blood and I have a hard time believing that nothing would be done about it. Regardless of what...it seems like a concern to you and you should bring this up with the teacher. If there was no blood, it could very well have been a situation that a child didn't even realize they did it...or they did but didn't bring it up to the teacher.
Did your child tell the teacher? (It sounds painful - so I'm sure they did.)

If they told the teacher - you should have received a call - or at the very least been given a ';boo boo'; report at the end of the day.

Did they even put a bandaid on them?

I would definitely complain.

We call home for any head injury or any blood.
oh YES,you should take the child to the doctor or hospital and have them make record of this and also report this to child services or who ever the doctor suggest, because if they don't do anything about this it could be something else going on that's not been reported.
did the teacher send your child to the school nurse/were you called/ or your child came home like this/ its neglect if you were not notified and your child reported it to the teacher/ the teacher should be reported if your child reported to her and nothing was done
accidents happen but i would definitely demand an explanation of what happened and where /what the teachers were doing when it happened. also, what consequences did the other child face if another kid did it?
If that happened to my child and the teacher did nothing, whether it was technically called ';neglect'; or not would be the least of that daycare's concern. God Bless you.
Depends on how it happened and if they were real nails or fakes but either way if the teacher was aware of it I would think he or she should have done something
it all depends on what the kid says happens..and if its happening more than once and also if other stuff is happening to him...than in fact its prob neglect.
If the child was hurt and the teacher did not care for the injury, then yes.
I don't know if it's neglect but it's defnitely WRONG!
yes? you should go somewhere else .That is irresponsible
yeah! where and what was the teacher doing when this was going on?
YES!
yes.
yes!
