Why do people bite their finger nails?

Just a habit!

Do finger nails grow faster than toe nails?

just wondering.Do finger nails grow faster than toe nails?
Everybody's finger nails grow faster than toe nails unless they are born with a defect.Do finger nails grow faster than toe nails?
Yup, it's because the circulation is better in the fingers than in the feet. The fingernails, then, get more nutrients to grow and grow a bit faster (I think fingernails grow an inch and a half a year, on average, while toenails grow only about a half an inch to an inch per year. Something like that.)
my finger nails seam to grow a lot faster than my toe nails. i don't no if they do tend to always grow faster than toe nails, but mine do.

Hannah x
yes they do.
Mine do
I cut my toe nails every other month. I cut my finger nails about twice a month.
great article on this. Your middle finger nail grows fastest. then read the article for more mail growth info.
Fingernails usually grow faster then toenails.

If you try to think back you probably need to trim your fingernails twice or three times for every time you trim your toenails, unless you like particularly short toenails.

Nail or staple through finger?

Ok, basically i was walking my dog and i picked up a stick to throw for him but it had alot of nails and what i think were staples i didn't realise untill i chucked it because it was dark and my finger started to hurt so i glanced at it and it was bleeding so i went home washed it and put antiseptic on it should it be ok?Nail or staple through finger?
It is a good idea to get a tetanus shot if yours is lapsed.

You may not need it, but it is cheap insurance against a nasty problem.Nail or staple through finger?
i think you should be fine. i would keep it clean and dressed and see how it goes.

if it starts to really hurt and become inflamed and maybe infected then i would suggest you see your doctor for possible antibiotics and maybe a tetanus.

good luck.
you'll be fine.

When I was younger I bit my nails. Then I found out how nasty it was under the nails. It grossed me out and I stopped.

What are the white little marks on the finger nails?

    Calcium marks.

They mean you are not eating enough calcium so your nails grow weak. Try drinking a glass of milk everyday to help make them less noticeable until they go away. :]What are the white little marks on the finger nails?
I was always told they were marks for every time you tell a lie.

Seriously, This is the most common form of Leukonychia, small white spots on the nails. Picking and biting of the nails are a prominent cause in young children and nail biters. In most cases, when white spots appear on a single or a couple of fingers or toes, the most common cause is injury to the base (matrix) of the nail. When this is the case, white spots disappear after around eight months, which is the amount of time necessary for nails to regrow completely.

White spots showing up on all or nearly all nails for longer periods of time (months and years) can be due to one of several reasons. One common explanation is zinc deficiency. What are the white little marks on the finger nails?
Medically speaking, those little white marks that sometimes appear as dots or lines on the fingernail are known as leukonychia. There are several possible causes for the discoloration, but the most common are mild trauma, a fungal infection, skin conditions, or nutritional deficiencies.

They are probably just ';bruises'; or injuries from hitting it on something.
bruises. when you hit your nail hard, like hard enough to bruise your skin, the layers in your nail kinda un-laminate and they don't reflect light as well. they stay on your nail for a long time cuz they only grow like 1 1/2 inch a year. do the math, find how fast they grow a day! so, since the nail doesn't ';re-laminate';, so the mark stays on the nail until that part of the nail grows out. hth
I think it's because of not having enough calcium in your diet, so you probably should drink at least a glass of milk a day if you want nice, strong nails.
    either from ::

    *bruises,

*lack of some vitamin or CALCIUM in your diet

*or left over nail polish? :]
they could be a fungus but most commonly they are caused by a vitamin deficiency
I have them and the doc said I needed to take in more foods and drinks with calcium
I believe they are caused by lack of milk/dairy in your diet.
You need to eat your veggies.
lack of vitamin c, milk and dairy products in your diet
    u need more calcium

What does it mean when I have white marks on my finger and toe nails?

i was advised it was a lack of Zinc... taking a once-a-day should solve the problem...What does it mean when I have white marks on my finger and toe nails?
when i took cosmetology my teacher told us about this, i think its like air bubbles.. or too much oxygen in your blood or somethingWhat does it mean when I have white marks on my finger and toe nails?
It is my understanding that it is a bruise to the nail. If you bang your hand and hit your fingernail it causes these marks. Taking calcium or even eating jello will help. (yes...jello does help with nails)
I think it is a vitamine or mineral deficiency, sorry I cant remember which one though.
It can be a lack of zinc. I agree with the person who suggested a simple multivitamin. I like the GNC vitamins, but Centrum is fine.
you have a lack of calcium

    Eat more cheese

    drink more milk
i think thats calcium deposits...or a sign of lack of calcium...not sure...
It shows that you need more calcium in your body. I had them too but they went away after I started to take calcium tablets.

    Lack of Calcium.
If medically- You are short of a nutrient.

If beliefs- Someone has feelings for you.

I have too... But, eat/drink more what you should eat/drink. And, when your nails grows longer, just cut it. :)
You must have a vitamin deficiency - start taking a multi-vitamin every morning.
some kind of mineral deficiency maybe zinc or have you been painting?
cuz you dont have enough of some kind of a vitamine!!!

    Nail pushed into finger...?

I recently knocked my pinky finger into a desk. I didn't think much of it when it happened, but the day after I noticed the nail was slightly pushed back into the finger and there's a little bump at the end, right before the cuticle... And the nail hasn't been growing at all. It's been like this for a few days, and only hurts if I knock it against something hard. Is there any danger in this and will the nail eventually grow back out normally? Is there anything I can do to help it?

    Thanks!Nail pushed into finger...?
go see a doc that the most reasonable decision that will workNail pushed into finger...?
your nail will probably go black and then fall off if the nail bed has been damaged. Just wrap it up and keep it protected so you dont cause anymore harm.

Make sure you dont have any open skin tho otherwise it might become infected.
Maybe it's ingrown...? If it is, (from http://www.mothernature.com/Library/Book鈥?/a>

    ';Get a wisp of relief. Your mission is to help that embedded toenail grow out over the skin folds at its side. Start by soaking your foot in warm water to soften the nail, says California practitioner Frederick Hass, M.D., author of The Foot Book and a staff member of Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae. Dry carefully, then gently insert a wisp (not a wad) of sterile cotton beneath the burrowing edge of the nail. The cotton will slightly lift the nail so it can grow past the tissue it is digging into. Apply an antiseptic as a safeguard against infection. Change the cotton insert daily until the nail has grown past the trouble spot.';

Same would apply to your hand.

How do i get off excess nail polish on my fingers without taking it off my nails?

i'm really bad at painting so i have a lot of excess polish on my skin. how do i get it off without taking it off my nails??How do i get off excess nail polish on my fingers without taking it off my nails?
Dip Q-tips in the polish and carefully run it along the edges. That probably won't take it all off, so here are my two little tricks. First, take fingernail clippers and gently scrape and clip away the excess polish. Be careful and don't cut yourself. This works really well, though. My other trick is in the shower, when it's all steamy and hot, the excess polish scrapes off very easily with your fingernail. How do i get off excess nail polish on my fingers without taking it off my nails?
Get a q-tip BEFORE you put on the nail polish or anything.

Then take off most of its fuzz, but leave a good enough amount on.

Pour a little bit of the polish remover into the cap %26amp; leave the qtip in there.

When u need it, get it and go around the nails.

Also hold it in the middle, because the fuzz makes a dent in your nails.

    Thats the cheap way,

you can always buy a ';nail corrector'; pen at your local drugstore or whatever.
Very carefully using a q-tip with nail polish remover.

Maybe you can ask someone to take it off for you because a different hand is likely to be more steady than your own. I do not paint my own nails because of that. My hands cannot get steady enough.

    Good luck!!!!
Take a lil paintbrush dip it in nail polish remover, then paint it off. Make sure to wash your hands when done, if you eat pizza, trust me it does not taste good, boy does nail polish remover taste horrible.
you take a tooth pick and swirl it around in a cotton ball, then dip it in nail polish remover and it works really good. small unlike a qtip so you dont take it off your nails. mom used to work at a nail salon and did it all the time
Use a Q-tip, it allows you to get the areas you want and avoid those you don't
dip a qtip in polish remover a gently wipe off the excess polish
I bought a little polish remover ';pen'; at Target. Sally Hansen makes it.
Once you take your shower all the excess will come off with plain soap and water
put nail polish remover on a q-tip and then use that to wipe it off your fingers. xxx

Why do my finger nails keep splitting?

my fingernails are splitting olong the top edgeand has ridges long the faceWhy do my finger nails keep splitting?
Always moisturize your hands after washing, and try to avoid hash soaps.

Use plenty of cuticle oil daily and you should really notice an improvement. The best nail and cuticle oil will contain Jojoba oil and Vitamin E as two of the main ingredients.

Nail polish contains solvent that allow it to dry and give nails it's inherrant 'shine' and toughness. These same solvents can be very drying to nails, and can actually contribute to the problem.

Also avoid having your hands in water for long periods of time (so use gloves when doing the dishes).

I've also heard very nice things about Nailtique, so you should also benefit from that too.

If you can get past the strong garlic odor, it's definitely worth using garlic oil... you could get from the Vitamin World store... It comes in a capsule form, like Vitamin E does, so the capsule has to be broken... I use it about 3 times a week. Just break open about 4 capsules, massage into nail and cuticle and put in a pair of latex gloves for about 20-30 min. just wash hands with soap and water, the smell does wash away.... hope you have as much luck with this as I have had

You may have a deficiency in something that your body needs, or you may be ill. Nails and hair are the first to go when you are ill. Check with a doctor.
It depends how old you are. You should have a professionally manicured every week or every other week and you'll see the differences. Plus daily product won't hurt you. Good luck!

Barca's ';best attack in the world'; couldn't break down Chelsea. They had more possesion and still had several decent chances to score but wasted them. It's not good football but since the 60's teams have always used negative spoiling tactics away from home to frustrate the opposition. The bottom line is you have to take what chances you can.

  • Why do I have white spots underneath my finger nails ?

The spots you notice are not caused by a calcium deficiency. They're called ';leukonychia'; and are very common. Most of the time the white spots simply are a sign of some past injury to the matrix (base) of your nails. By the time the white spot shows up (about six weeks after the injury) you've probably forgotten all about banging or knocking your fingers. Sometimes, the injury can stem from a manicure that put excessive pressure on the base of the nails. The spots also can be a sign of an allergic reaction to nail polish or nail hardeners and, sometimes, are a symptom of a mild infection. Why do I have white spots underneath my finger nails ?

  • How do you get nail polish completly off your fingers?

When I take my nail polish off with remover and a cotton ball it seems like I can never get it completly off. There is always some that sticks around my cuticles. I have even tried the salon quality wipes and remover. Any ideas? How do you get nail polish completly off your fingers?
I always use cotton balls and tissue with stong acetate nail polish remover. If that doesn't get it all off, use a q-tip and try again with the remover. If it still sticks, use an orangewood stick and push your cuticles down, and soak your nails in a small amount of remover. Then rinse your fingers with cold water and dry off. If that doesn't help, just wait awhile and it should chip off naturally ;)How do you get nail polish completly off your fingers?
no clue i would think that the problem is the polish remover, perhaps it isn't strong enough...hope this helps.......... :)SMILE D
Take an orange wood stick and wrap a thin piece of cotton around the tip. Use this to remove polish form hard to reach areas.
nail polish, picking it off while your nails are wet(that makes them rough though) probably nail polish is the best thing to use
acetone is the best/strongest but maybe you should poor some into the lip and sok ur finger then us a q-tip to get more into the edges
use a good remover with two layers of cotton pads (not cotton balls). U have to swipe the pads around your cuticles and dig a little or scratch your nails using the pads.
Use a cutical stick and scrape around the edges.

Dip your fingers in acid xD

No no realy, dip them in nail polish remover, you can get it anywhere
Well, next time you do use nail polish, with all the nail polish off, use a base and it will scrape off a lot easier. But while you are taking a shower, just start scraping with you other nails. Works perfect for me, no residue from it, nothing but a clean nail ^^ Hope it helps
If you'll soak a cotton ball, and let it sit over that part a few seconds, it usually dissolves it. I have that trouble, too.

letting someone else do them, if not then you can soak your feet and hands in warm soapy water and clean them out add baby oil to your hands and feet make sure you get the toes and fingers then wash with soap and dry, now you are ready for nail polish make sure you use two coats, once lite polish let dry and second polish will give you complete coverage now let dry for 5 minutes and add a clear coat and let dry completely.

    Finger nails changing colour?

Recently my nails have been changing colour. Usually they are slightly transparent grey- white where their not touching the skin but sometimes they go a lot more see-though. This happens after washing or just for no reason. Then they'll go back to normal after a while.Finger nails changing colour?
Maybe you are just going on the reaction of the skin and nails for some substance?

  • My chilled finger nails are belching what can i do to get it back by home treatment pleas help.?

i have never heard of belching finger nails before. so my suggestion would be to take them on the road and make lots of money with them. after you make a fortune then you can place them in the sink in warm water to warm them up.

Are painted toe nails and finger nails for woman only?

Most people will probably tell you that polished nails are for women only. But don't let them stop you. If you really want to, go ahead and do your nails. Treat yourself to a mani/pedi so your nails will look really nice. Are painted toe nails and finger nails for woman only?
well i think it isnt just for women because some guys get manicures and pedaicure....but they are not gay, because my boyfriend does gets manicure and he is not gay.....so its okay for guys....(unless they get the color finger nail polish)....then lol its not okay.....clear polish is okay....i hope i was some help!!!!Are painted toe nails and finger nails for woman only?
No. They are also for homosexual and crypto-homosexual men too, seeking to mimic femininity.
Of course not . Males ( notice I did not say men ) who wear lipstick and pink bras under their shirts , can also paint their nails .
    no .

many guys wear nail polish (presumably dark colours)

not sure about toes, but hey, why not?
    YES!!
i guess guys can do it, too. If you wanna stand out do it. mainly it's just women that do it and i'm not so sure that girls like guys with painted nails and toes. goths+emos sometimes paint their finger nails black. (no offense, and sorry if this is stereotyping).
    YES
    UHH YEAH
    no

    not

    really

because they do it for pleasure
    Uh, yes.
Nooooo. I know alot of guys who wear black nail polish. Im not sure about on their toes though. hope this helps:)
Well honestly i think it is just for women.. It would be a bit weird if guys did it.. But if they did, i guess it's up to them, we can't stop them.. It's their life..

How do you getrid of poop underneath your finger nails?

this question is for my bf not meHow do you getrid of poop underneath your finger nails?
Regardless of the grime/dirt under the nails, there are three things that help. A small ';pick'; that is specially made for removing dirt, but a blunt toothpick or something similar works too. A small brush to reach under and brush out the dirt - stiff bristles preferable - but a cheap or old tooth brush works too. And soaking them - the sink, a bath, or the pool for example. Also try running water too. And trimming your nails - shorter the nail cuticle, the less space to harbor dirt/grime.How do you getrid of poop underneath your finger nails?
try using alot of soap and a fingernail brush
Well ew... I guess just get something like a needle or something and scrape it out, just like dirt. Ugh...

Why do your finger and toe nails grow more when you're on holiday?

    There's no correlation.

I cut my infants finger when I was cutting her nails now it wont stop bleeding?

I didn't mean too but now its been bleeding for about 15 mins. She is only 5 months old and her fingers are too small to put a band aid on. Please any suggestions.I cut my infants finger when I was cutting her nails now it wont stop bleeding?
keep presure on it, your not the only one who has done it so dont feel bad.I cut my infants finger when I was cutting her nails now it wont stop bleeding?
    baking soda water and pressure
keep pressure on it for over 10 minutes. DON'T PEEK!!! Every time you peek the blood must start clotting all over again. I would put a band aid on and swaddle her and that should do the trick.
It happens to the best of us. I did this to my son when he was just a few weeks old. Just apply pressure with a paper towel and it will stop.
apply pressure dont let up for a couple mins... it will work i promise... if not go longer... you could try to bleed it out and let the blood coaggulate but pressure is ezer!!!!!
Get a clean cloth and hold your daughter's hand with steady pressure to stop the bleeding.

Fingers bleed a lot, so it looks worse than it really is. (Lots of moms have done this so don't feel bad!)
i did the same thing to my son once just add pressure and it will stop
pressure pressure pressure (NO WATER, WATER WILL ONLY KEEP THE BLEED FLOWING).. its the only way to stop the bleeding.. if tis deep you should bring her to the doctor..small babies prone to infection
go to the doctor . or What i will do put alcohol on it with cotton puff buy one of those square band aids they really small put them on her and keep feeding her juice with vitamins and proteins you should be okay i hope.I hope he/She will be okay.
Try running it over cold water this will help it clot but if that does not work and I assume you have already applied pressure than take her to the emergency room because she is not clotting and that is not good at all.

Run cold water and than apply pressure for about 3 minutes.

    Hope that works good luck.

Also they have nail clippers with a magnifying glass on it.

Why are my finger nails turning blue black?

also feeling very coldWhy are my finger nails turning blue black?
I have the same thing it's most likely Reynaulds syndrom, where the blood vessels dilate wrong so blood flow is poor. Go to doctor to confirm. There is no real treatment... I believe they give medication if it's real severe and painful. I just try to keep my hands warm. Why are my finger nails turning blue black?
    Gangrene!

You should probably go to the hospital immediately.

If it spreads to your whole hand or arm, they'll have to cut more than just your finger off.
    Poor circulation
you hit your fingers and bruised them.

  • How can i stop biting my finger nails?

I have a real bad habit of biting my finger nails...And I have promised myself so many times I would stop, but I just cant...My nails are basically down to NOTHING! and I am embarrased by them...Does ANYONE please know how I can stop this habit!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!! thanks -Colin.WHow can i stop biting my finger nails?
There are many medicines in the pharmacy n which u put ur fingers in it(one by one) which tasted extremely bitter. I have this habit too, and i also bite the skin around them. But when i tried this 'medicine', it worked perfect. And btw, i suggest u stop from now, cuz 1 time when i was in the park, i discovered a had a small pus-filled small boil which hurts and itches so much@! then my aunt(a doctor) had to heat up a nail and get it in the small boil and all the disgusting yellow pus came out! I felt i had no finger, so i suggest u prepare ur self psychologically and 'medicinically' ! Hope it helped ^_^How can i stop biting my finger nails?
I used to have the worst biting problem as well, and i havent bitten my nails in years now. Everytime I felt myself biting my nails I would sit on my hand. Also, my best friend would slap my hand lightly when my hand would go up to my mouth. (I am telling you, i bit my nails WAYYYY too much!) Then I went to my cousin's house and she had this nail polish called ';STOP';. I tried it on and an hour later i was bitting my nails and it tasted terrible. The taste lasted on my nails for a week and a half. I would literally spit my hand out of my mouth whenever i started to bite. After a second use, i just got so grossed out that I came out of the habit
Painting nails is good but it's a pain to maintain. Try clipping them really short. Or put something gross on your fingers like tabasco sauce or something that will repulse you when you go to bite them.
put pepper on ur nails and eventually ur stop being a dumbass and relize that it doesnt taste good
i have been trying as well. It seems to be working, but i carry gum, taffy, little candies with me and when i feel like biting my nails i chew a piece of that until the craving goes away. The one thing i HIGHLY reccommend that you DONT do is buy that nail stuff that is painted on and it is supposed to taste bad. If you are eating anything that involves hands the taste gets on your food and its just gross. i've tried a couple different things, but if you put it on afte ryou ate or something im sure it would be fine.. i just didnt have good luck with that polish shtuuffff at all. :-P
If you paint your nails with nail polish it will taste bad so you will stop biting your nails. But you have to keep paint your nail one time won't work

It painting your finger nails bad for your fetus when your pregnant?

NO!!!!!!!!!!! Neither is dying your hair or getting your nails done. Don't worry so much.It painting your finger nails bad for your fetus when your pregnant?
noIt painting your finger nails bad for your fetus when your pregnant?
As long as it's in a well ventilated area then there's no problem.
    No
No, but paint them in a well ventilated area incase the smell of the nail varnish is one of those smells that you suddenly can't tolerate.

There is no chance of absorbing the varnish into your bloodstream, so there is no risk of your baby suffering.
The actual polish isn't harmful (it doesn't get in your system), the only potential concern could be the fumes from the polish and the polish remover. I think they do sell polish with lower fumes though.
no. unless you are drinking the nail polish! :-)
No, it is fine. Sometimes the nail salons have a lot of strong fumes, but outside of that, there is no risk.
its not bad for the fetus, but if anything were to go wrong, u would have to take it off or they would take it off in the doctors office in order to monitor your oxygen level.

Paint them clear if anything. This way, if an emergency c section or something was necessary, they arent prolonged with removing your polish.
Painting your nails - whether pregnant or not - *can* be harmful to you (if you use polish a lot) because many nail polishes contain formaldehyde. Use a formaldehyde-free polish (look at the ingredients label) and you should be fine.
no Painting your nails or putting a permon your hair or walking outside barefoot or going outside with your hair wet will affect your fetus/baby, these are old wisetales they just storie, Girl paint them nail!
yes my spanish teacher told someone if they're going to wear nailpolish it cant be chipped and she said she had remover and nail polish over ther ebut she said i cant giv eit to you, im pregnant sorry.

Surgery on a finger for a nail?

alright, this is kind of hard to explain but here it goes.

When me friend was little she stuff her finger in an electric outet. At the time they didnt do much about the finger but now there is only a tiny bit of nail on the finger and it happened awhile ago. She wants to know if there are any options of getting surgery on it to make the real nail grow again or even better, to get a fake nail surgically there.

%26amp; today we went to the doctor and the doctor had said that there arent much options cuz the nail probably wont grow and you cant put a fake nail on. Does anyone know anything that could helpp, on this topic?

    Will I gain weight

~Thanks~Will I gain weight if food gets under my finger nails?
No. You will not gain weight from cooking with fat; you must consume food. There is no way for food to get into your body under your nails, through a cut, ect. Will I gain weight if food gets under my finger nails?
You got to go get help. I'm not Joking, please I Have been where you have before, its a cruel Disease and i wish you the best. This sounds Neurotic! and you know it, I really hope you can beat this disease.

What is the best color of paint for your finger nails?

Well that's a personal choice but some colors look better on darker skin then light skin...but I say go for a french manicure...they look sexy!!What is the best color of paint for your finger nails?
Personality is a key figure... Me... I like to paint my nails what ever my mood is that day... if I'm happy bright red.... sad... Black.... Inbetween.... Pink. Personally... I think you're personality is bright so... I would say a dark pink. What is the best color of paint for your finger nails?
I paint my nails Black, Purple, Red, Blue and sometimes Dark pink... I think those 5 nail colors are the best to paint your nails =]
Ive heard that Lincoln Park After dark is good.
I don't like nail polish, because I am a straight guy... So none!
    um... what ever you like...
is this a personal question or are you asking it for you? because if you're asking it for advice for you, it just depends on your skin color and complexion. if you're asking a personal question, then my best color is a very light pink, almost clear, color.
    BLACK!

  • I am male, 60, and often wonder why my finger nails have ridges? Something too much in my diet? Or too little?

Vertical ridges are normal. They are no big deal.

However, horizontal ridges can be serious.Horizontal lines are associated with albumin deficiency (as is kidney disease, and liver and severe malnutrition), but also seen in chemotherapy. They seem to be a simple interruption of pigmentation. Horizontal lines of darkened cells and linear depressions may be associated with traumas, acute severe illness, malnutrition, major metabolic condition, chemotherapy or other damaging event, and is the result of any interruption in the protein formation of the nail plate.I am male, 60, and often wonder why my finger nails have ridges? Something too much in my diet? Or too little?
i have heard that it has to do with heart problems. i dont know for sure.I am male, 60, and often wonder why my finger nails have ridges? Something too much in my diet? Or too little?
no there is not really much you can do about them except buff them out with a nail buffer, they are called furrows
finger nails can be a very good indication that something is going on in your system, diet is one, ridges appear after illness and injury. and sometimes they are just part of you...

a good moisturizer can help nourish the nails but ultimately you need to look at your diet and make sure you are getting all the nutrition you need to repair and rebuild your cells.
It's because of your age that your nails are getting these ridges.

As you get older you get these longitudinal ridges on your finger and toe nails form because your nails begin to grow slower and because you have a decrease of peripheral circulation to your fingers and toes.

What can get rid of finger and toe nail stain from nail polish?

i tried polident 3 minute denture cleaner but it barely took any of the stain off. is there anything else that might work? what about a cream bleach for facial hair maybe?

i am never leaving nail polish on very long ever again. this is so embarrassing, looks like i am a chain smoker or something, and i dont even smoke! What can get rid of finger and toe nail stain from nail polish?
try vinegar. i've never tried it by friends say it works ;)

yeah i think white so try that first and if that doesn't work try the other. What can get rid of finger and toe nail stain from nail polish?
If the stain is on your actual nail (not on your skin) then I would just use a nail filer to buff out the stain--not too hard, you don't want to damage your nail. Just rub the nail filer lightly on the top of each stained nail, rinse them off, then use a coat of clear nail polish and you will be good to go.
to prevent it in the future, always put on a cooat of clear polish BEFORE you do the color. the clear won't stain your nails and it'll act as a barrier for the red
Soak it in pure acetone... It will dry your skin out, but it works better than regular finger nail polish remover... If that doesn't work, might need to scrub the heck out of your skin with some alcohol.
It will naturally go away in 1-2 weeks, but you could soak your feet in warm, soapy water for 5-10 minutes.

    White vinegar.
that's not a stain per say, your actual nail is yellow from lack of oxygen because you've had the polish on so long. don't keep putting more chemicals on it.
Try setting fire to your nails, nail polish is flammable i beleive. sorry if this only causes you pain.

I had dream bout a man with big pointy finger nails?

he is very ugly mind you and scary face and always scratches his fingers up to the wall and i wake up before he can catch up to me and one night i wake up and my skin was itchy and kinda red and in my dream he hit meI had dream bout a man with big pointy finger nails?
i think youur dreaming about freddy from ';nightmare on elm street';. did you just watch that movie recently? that sounds right to me, if you live on elm street then i would probably do something about that, cause thats some **** thenI had dream bout a man with big pointy finger nails?
if your english wasn't good you would type ';about'; instead of ';bout';. that just doesn't add up correctly. you can control your dreams if you think about it while you're going to sleep. what you do is every hour while you're awake say ';am i dreaming?'; then it becomes habit. so while you're sleeping you'll ask yourself and realize, ';yes i am.'; i did it for awhile but then stopped. i kept waking myself up :P
Okay, well it is just a dream. Maybe while you were dreaming you scratched yourself or something?

What are finger nails made out of?

Swollen / infected Finger tip, around nail !! wat should i do?

my boyfriends finger is swollen around the cuticle area on his nail.

it started to swell up , and then it burst, with loads of pus coming out.

he doesnt remember hurting it or cutting it.. after it burst it swelled up, and is now still swollen but not as bad... it hs left a tiny area of see throu-ish skin just above the cuticle like a hole where the infection was.. went to doctor but had to wait four hours! so left..... will book appointment next time.Swollen / infected Finger tip, around nail !! wat should i do?
Clean the area well with soap and water. Inspect it closely looking for a red line emanating from the wound. It is a precaution to take to ensure he did not get blood poisoning. After cleaning the area well, pat dry and then put some triple antibiotic ointment (if it hurts him get the one with lidocaine) on the affected area. I would leave it uncovered while awake and then cover with a band aid before going to bed to afford the wound some protection. In the morning repeat the cleaning process, reapply the ointment, and leave uncovered if possible as it will heal quicker. Given the description you provided the worst should be over. He'll want to keep an eye out for blood poisoning. I cut my finger years back when tending bar, there was a broken glass in the water I was washing glasses in and about a day and a half later I noticed a nasty looking red line coming from the cut and going up my hand to the wrist. A friend got me in to see the doctor she worked for and he saw the red line and told me if I had waited a few more hours to seek help I might have lost my hand to blood poisoning. That is why I am suggesting he keep a close eye on it. The keys now are to keep the area clean and use the antibiotic ointment/cream. He should be fine. Take care.Swollen / infected Finger tip, around nail !! wat should i do?
Either the nail got ingrown, he had an infected hangnail, or he had something in there like a sliver. If it has already burst, the worst part is over. Keep it clean and keep an eye on it, and it will be fine.
Something must have gotten inside his nail and puss is body defense system.if there is more puss try to get it out by squeezing it ,if it does not hurt and keep it clean by using hydrogen peroxide.
soak in vinegar for a long time

Smashed my finger -- under my nail is all black?

I play field hockey, and yesterday in my scrimmage my right pinkie got jammed in between two sticks. At first, it just stung really bad. But gradually, underneath my entire nail has become black. The other side of my finger is purple, and there are red dots near the top. The nail itself is completely intact.

My mom says I could possibly lose the nail. Is there anything I can do to make it heal faster, or prevent from losing the nail? Any sort of pressure on the pinkie hurts -- I'm not even typing with it, haha. Thanks so much to anyone who can help!Smashed my finger -- under my nail is all black?
It's blood. No big deal for now. Just ice it.

But if it starts throbbing, you might wanna go to a doctor. Or you could release the blood from under your nail by yourself. To do this, you will need a lighter, guaze, a needle, and some rubbing alcohol.

Step one: sterilize the needle and the finger nail with the alcohol.

Step Two: heat the needle up with the lighter.

Step three: apply the needle to the nail at a 90 degree angle. Apply sight pressure.

Repeat steps 2-3 as necessary until you get some blood coming out.

Step four: soak up the blood with the guaze.

Its really not that painful, it actually feels really good because the pressure that is making your finger throb is going away.Smashed my finger -- under my nail is all black?
The black color underneath the nail is an accumulation of blood under the nail. The pressure sensation is due to the blood in the space. One way to relieve that pressure is to make a small pinpoint hole in the nail which will relieve the pressure. (you might need to see your provider for that). If the finger hurts quite a bit you might want to immobilize it as it might be broken or badly sprained. You can use two popsicle sticks with some tape. If there was enough trauma to the nail it will fall off, there is nothing you can do about that.
Its best to remove the nail so it doesn't cause further infection, they may inject some medicine that makes you lose feeling in that area for a period of time, so that means they will inject your pinky.. Well if they were to remove the nail without the injection it would hurt twice as bad.

If they did remove it, it would grow back in time.

As for you still being able to play Hockey, I would give it a little time to heal maybe a month or two. Best of luck!
go to the doctor, one of my friends did that to his thumb and he dropped a HUGE bass drum on it and he had to go to the doctor to get a hole puntured into his nail to relieve the pressure...so go to the doctor they'll poke a hole in your pinkie and give you some stuff that will heal it..:D

    I hoped I helped
you probably will lose the nail but a new one will grow under the ugly one and push the ugly nail off.. my son is going through this now.. the ugly nail is just about to come off so we are keeping his thumb wrapped because he keeps catching the nail on things and it hurts so I bought corn covers for toes so they would stay in place .. they work better than a bandaid
the naIL is black because of blood underneath nail and purple from bruising and i am sure that the nail will come off eventually but a new one will grow back fairly quickly so no worries just let air to it and the nail will come off by itself or as a new one starts growing
There is nothing you can do to stop the nail from coming off it does sound as though it will. You could try arnica tabs they should help with the bruising.
You can drill a small hole in the nail and let the pressure from the blood drain.
carefully drill a small hole and release the blood with a drill bit, that may save the nail50/50
The black is dried blood. Yes, you may lose the finger nail, but it will grow back.

  • My finger nails and toe nails are yellow with years of putting varnish on them with no base coat?

can anyone tell me how to get them to go back to normal? My finger nails and toe nails are yellow with years of putting varnish on them with no base coat?
I am a trained health and skin care therapist and have some really good advice. A buffer is an excellent way of removing the colour. It is a four sided, rectangular shaped object that you will find in most stores. Using the slighty coarse side, gently buff the toenails (ontop) from side to side watching as the colour fades away. Be carefull not to over-buff, for this will make the toenails thin and they will start to split. Should the colour not completely disappear, use a good base coat (Jessica's) with a light french pink colour ontop to give the toenail time to grow out before you buff again. My finger nails and toe nails are yellow with years of putting varnish on them with no base coat?
    bleach
    good luck
R u sure? b/c nail fungus is going around u have to wait until it grows back and if it grows yellow then go to doctor so they can prescribe medication! If not then then should wait until it re-grows.
umm. the only thing I can think of is to stop wearing nail polish for a while, scrub the tops of your nails with a nail brush and wait til they grow out. they should go back to the normal color. hope this works! (worked for me...)
Let the nails completely grow out. If still yellow then it is common fungus. See doctor. It's treatable. As for staining from polish, there are products to treat that. Ask a cosmetician at a drug store. Can't think of product name at the moment.
try buffing with one of those square spongy buffer things , like they use at the salons. otherwise , start getting pedicures and it will eventually grow out. the buffer should work though.
try adding a capful of hydrogen peroxide to the bleach. be very careful and use only capful. put fingertips in solution and leave there for 5 minutes. Should be gone, at least it was for me.
You have to just stop applying nail polish and let the nails grow out the healthy color or if you want to wear polish put on a non-yellowing base coat first!! It is very important. Base coats are important because they keep your nails from turning yellow and help keep the polish on longer. Buy a nail strengthen treatment which will help your nails grow faster, a great one is Nail Tex hydration therapy, which is sold at professional salons but I've heard the sally hanson one works great as well. If all fails, go to a salon and ask to speak to the nail tech. who might have some ideas.

You can buy nail polish from any store (target, wallmart, etc) that has green tea antioxidants. It worked for me. I believe the brand is in a red box and is at a pretty good price. I love long nails myself, don't try fake nails. %26lt;_%26gt; they hurt alot and that glue does damage to your REAL nail. Hope this helped!
you can stimulate growth by massaging the nail bed often, it helps if you use a nail cream.

if you need them drastically longer very soon, i suggest some fake nails for the moment as you can only encourage nail growth.

I always bite the skin that surrounds my finger nails whenever I feel stressed, how can i stop?

My sister does the same and at one point in her life her hands looked leprous.

I have suggested to her that she should learn some instant relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or light stretching. When you notice you are anxious about something - try not to obsess about it but rather centre your mind and try to be logical.

If you find you are chewing the skin around your nails - stop and try to understand why you are feeling tense. Then you need to close your eyes and in hale deeply and exhale smoothly. To a little stretching, even if you work at a desk job, you can extend your legs and feet and just rotate your ankles. Do the same with your arms.

If you don't feel comfortable doing deep breathing and light stretching in front of other people. Just take yourself somewhere private for 5 minutes and calm yourself down.

I know it can be frustrating to be doing what you do - but I do feel you could tackle it with relaxation.

You may also have feelings of low self-worth or resentment. Talking to someone who can understand would be helpful with that kind of tension in your mind. These habits are external manifestations of bigger problems sometimes. But you can do anything you put your mind to - why not?

Hope that helps you.I always bite the skin that surrounds my finger nails whenever I feel stressed, how can i stop?
First observe in which situations you get stressed, and watch your thoughts and feelings. Are these thoughts useful and helpful? Are there other ways to cope with the situation?

Second, speak to yourself in a reassuring and calming manner.

Third, replace your undesired behavior with a desirable one; for example, shaking your hands.

Fourth, when stressed, begin to breathe comfortably through your stomach, inflating and deflating it like balloon. Breathe in and out through your noise. You can also breathe out through your mouth to relax the facial muscles.I always bite the skin that surrounds my finger nails whenever I feel stressed, how can i stop?
think about all the nasty stuff on your hands!
see a hypnotherapist - thats what got me to stop biting my nails.
    1. Get help from someone who can help you figure out your stress triggers. Then try to deal with your stress in a positive way. Get help if you need to.

    2. Learn the Serenity Prayer. There are many working websites to go to and do Serenity Prayer work online. Go to yahoo search and look up Serenity Prayer and Serenity prayer work.

    3. Start to pamper your hands. Depending on your budget use hand creams and lotions or just plain vaseline. There are websites that give recipies for homemade hand treatments. Wear gloves when you can. If you are able, treat your hands before you put on the gloves. Cloth gloves as well as rubber gloves.

    4. Start to pamper yourself. Learn to love yourself more.

    5. If nothing helps, get professional help. If you don't have insurance contact a social worker in your area or human services and find out where you can go for free help.

If you need to talk, email me.

    Best wishes.

French manicure or red finger nails?

I'm getting married tomorrow so which pedicure %26amp; manicure should i put on my nails? french manicure or red?French manicure or red finger nails?
Absolutely French, its clean and classy and will look great with anything you are wearing right from your wedding to your honeymoon. Save the red for Holiday parties. CONGRATULATIONS! MANY BLESSINGS.French manicure or red finger nails?
French manicure please.. Red fingers nails are for jezabels
Whatever you want, it's your day.
A french manicure will look nicer in pictures.

Best wishes in your new life together.
French manicure for sure. Red is meant to look wild and sexy -- not a good look for a wedding. A french manicure will make you look classy and elegant!
i guess it would really depend on the theme of your wedding.

if you're having a classier wedding, then definitely french.

if you're having a trendier wedding, i would go with maybe a dark maroon or something that is really in style... dark navy blue is really trendy right now too! just make sure it goes with the theme of your wedding.
depends how long your nails are. if they're short you can paint them red, really bright or really dark color look best of short nails. if you have long nails get a french manicure, that will look the best as well! good luck with whatever you choose, either way will look pretty though!
French would look much more elegant. The red will be too much contrast between the white (or ivory) of your dress and will stick out ';like a sore thumb'; . Sorry no pun intended. Couldn't resist though. Seriously I do think the French will look so much more elegant on you than the red. Red is nice for going out on the town but not so much for getting married.
french manicure, red is for going out and stuff innit
French Manicure..hope the day goes well =D
    FRENCH!
    french!

    good luck! :)
    both are super cute!
    French!!! much more elegant
A frenc manicure is more formal, so I would go with that.

I think so, but I don't know for sure! It seems like that thin layer of skin right under the nail kinda flakes off as the nail grows. When finger nails grow, does this skin underneath grow out too....?
Yes and no, your skin will always grow and shed cells. The skin under your nails does grow out but not as fast as the rest of your skin on your body

Trying to grow my finger nails?

I need a way to grow my finger nails. I pick them but I am trying to stop and get manicures instead. I also need a way to stop picking them if you know a way. Thanks a lot. (AD: CoolGalz11 on Youtube, go to www.youtube.com/CoolGalz11) Thanks ahead.Trying to grow my finger nails?
The best stuff I have found to grow my nails is Sally Hansen nailgrowth miracle. It is in a gold bottle, goes on clear, and my nails grow. Nothing ever worked for me.

As for not picking them, start small. Put lotion on your hands, moisturize your cuticles, and polish might make you feel bad about picking it off.

If you pick at them because you are bored or nervous, play with a squeeze/stress ball or a straw - something to keep your fingers busy! (That REALLY helped me when I quit smoking).Trying to grow my finger nails?
If its a habit, your best bet is to just get your nails done every 2 weeks or so with fake nails. First paint clear nail polish before going to get them done or doing them yourself because it makes your nails stronger: less breakage. And then your nails will grow under the fake nails. Before long, you'll be used to not biting your natural nails and the habit will be broken and your nails will be longer. Good luck.
I used to pick them too, and i still do occasionally. I stopped because i grew them a little and I realized how good they look, so I decided to stop picking them.

Theres this vitamin called Perfectil. Its great for your skin hair and nails. I only used it once though because I'm 14, and its for 18 and up but that one pill sure made a difference.
You can buy nail growth nail polish and it makes your nails grow faster

You can also get a nail dip that has a horrible taste. You dip you fingers in it and when you go to bite your nails the taste gets in your mouth and stops you.

What are the white dots on my finger nails?

i was told at one time it is calcuim defeciency.....but my mother use to tell me that was how many lies i told lol...funny huh....try getting you some calcium pills or you can go to a manicurest and ask themWhat are the white dots on my finger nails?
    Wow guys....

The white dots are from nail trauma... You dont notice just how often to bump your nail against something... Just look at the white marks. Flick something hard and you'll get one.

They are perfectly normal, they dont indicate any type of mineral deficiency. What are the white dots on my finger nails?
I think they might be calcium deposits.
Those tell you how many boyfriends or girlfriends you are gonna have that year.
Whiteout. Quit splashing that stuff round when correcting spelling errors on your paper.
An indication of a lack of calcium.
the white dots on Ur finger nails mean that you do not have enough calcium in your body. drink more milk.
the white dots on your finger nails are likely to be caused by vitamin/calcium deficiency. try taking vitamin/calcium one-a-day tablets if you do not already do so. hope this helps =)
They are from lack of calcium. You can get rid of them by taking vitamin C every day or just increasing the amount of calcium in your diet.
Someone once told me it had to do with how much milk you drink and how much calcium you have in your body!
    lack of vitamins

    eat lots of carrots
    could be lack of calcium

I have another habbit of bitting the skin around my finger nails and it looks really bad, how can i stop!?

ok well i bite my finger nails... (im trying to stop that too) but i also but the skin around my finger nails... its a habbit and i want to stop because it looks really bad so any tips on how to stop?I have another habbit of bitting the skin around my finger nails and it looks really bad, how can i stop!?
Will power is the only answer. Tell yourself you can and you can. You just have to make yourself stop. Like the little children's train story. I think I can. I think I can. If I can do it, so can you. Just do it and stop.

May the force be with you! ( ha! ha!) No really, you can do it.I have another habbit of bitting the skin around my finger nails and it looks really bad, how can i stop!?
put tape around your fingers and it will stop you from biting
Get some hot pepper sauce/juice and soak the ends of your fingers in them. There are some bitters you could probably spray on them and see if that helps. Pick a taste/sensation you don't like.
you can buy this stuff called 'nail biter', its in the nail polish section. The stuff tastes really really REALLY gross. It worked on my son. Not very expensive maybe $5 put it all over your fingertip. as often as you need.
you just have to stop maybe think that you use your hands to do something nasty so dont put it in your mouth ;)
Lemon juice, tabasco sauce and baking soda. Make a paste and slather your fingers with it. One taste and you want want that near your mouth.
Wash your hands in the toilet each morning. Then you'll never bite your fingers again.
I had the same problem! I think when you want to do just think how bad they look do you really want to bite them is it really worth it?
I do the same thing.Every time I do it I try to smack my hand.{hard}.If I do it again tell my self my teeth are going to come in crooked
I had a horrible problem doing this as a teenager. I do not know if this will work for you but this is what worked for me. I saw a woman on the bus and she did the same thing to her fingers. She was standing and I was sitting behind her, therefore I could really stare at her hands and notice how awful/horrible/disgusting it really looks. After that, I stopped. I shuddered at the thought of my hands looking that way! But the truth was that they did! I just had to see how detestable it looked on someone else and that made it easy for me to stop. Whenever I did get the urge, I carried a small bottle of lotion in my bag and would put it on. No matter where I was or what I was doing in that instance. I stopped, pulled out the lotion and rubbed a lot all over my hands. Then sometimes I would chew a piece of gum, put my hands in my pocket or sit on my hands. Just until I was able to break the habit. Now I no longer have the problem and my hands look healthy. Maybe you can have someone take a picture of your hands and you can carry it with you to keep looking at what you do not want your hands to look like. I still carry the image in my head of what that woman's hands looked like. SHUDDER!!
well if you want to stop try to wear a very thin glove at night. and fing another habit like chewing gum or biting on a pencil that will surely keep your finger from looking repulsive or try to put tape on it. you could even put lotion on it so when you bite it it will taste gross. I actually had the same problem.
    haha wow. i do that 2, weird..lol

but i just went cold-turkey on it because i don't want my nails to look like that forever...*but i still do it every now and then...just not as much... ;-)*
I think you should think about what your doing when you do it so you can stop. Because you can't just go cold turkey, you have to slowly stop doing it.
You can put socks in your hands(when you are in your home,my brother did that) and in the school you can put the hand washer that doesn't need water , and you will NEVER bite your finger again(It tastes really bad, experience, many times)...
you can well i donno you can ok i donno sorry
Everyday dip each of your fingers in nail-polish remover. It will taste nasty enough to make you stop biting your nails. Its cheaper than the stuff that is specificaly made for stopping the habit.

Also, you can put hot sauce or any kind of spray that tastes nasty to you. Anything could work.
omg i do that too! haha it gets so bad sometimes!!*- i usually did it when i needed a ciggarette [when i smoked] or when i was nervous or mad.

well my sister would always tell me how bad they looked, and one day she seriously made me tape my fingers up so i couldnt do it!*- and it was so hard cuz i was so used to doing it. haha...but would try just not too...or put lotion on your fingers so it taste nasty when you bite them. or tape them up like i did for a while untill you get used to it! haha it worked for me.

    good luck.
same with me. try clipping off the extra skin with finger nail clippers so that you have nothing left to pick. :] good luck.
I understand where u are coming from. I use to do this. And nothing is worse then doing it in public and your finger starts to bleed. And you think oh why did I do that. I found if you have the dry skin around your fingernails. Just trim them slightly. At night before you go to bed just coat your fingers/hands in a cheap skin moisturiser. And those little dry pieces wont be there anymore.
There is a product at your local grocery store that can help. I used it years ago, but it makes the taste unbearable! I don't remeber the name, but someone in the cosmetics area can totally help you.

How often do you clip you finger and toe nails?

About once a yearHow often do you clip you finger and toe nails?
I keep my nails pretty long. But I cut my toenails every two weeks. How often do you clip you finger and toe nails?
probably like once a week or maybe once every two weeks. i like to keep my nails short because they get germs if you dont cut them.
My Fingers I just file %26amp; keep them nice but my toe nails grow quick so I clip them 2 times a week
    When they look too long.
whenever they get long enough too.
    When ever there long! lol
my fingernails grows faster than my toenails, I clipped it almost every other day because it gets quite irritating when my nails grew too long. I prefer neat and short fingernails.
does chewing them count? Either way, whenever they start to annoy me.
I chew my fingernails; and I clip my toenails when my big toes make a hole in my socks.
whenever I need to, I would say once every week at least.
    when ever i need to.
    once a month
    not often
depends on how fast your nails grow. I would recomend once a week to keep youself well groomed.
once in forth night,,,or when u can see dirts stuck n cling on your finger nails
    every week
    every week

What's the science/mechanics of lamps that you touch with flesh of finger, nails don't work.?

It is called a capacitance switch.

Basically a capacitor is like a reservoir for electrons. The circuit is set up so that it changes state when the reservoir falls below a critical level. When you touch a conductor that is attached to the capacitor your body sucks all of the electrons out of the capacitor and causes the switch to change state.

  • I have mold on some of my finger nails I wear Acrilic Nails. Why is that happening.?

What is causing my nails to get mold on them. I am wearing fills.I have mold on some of my finger nails I wear Acrilic Nails. Why is that happening.?
Because the nail place you go to sucks! Water must be getting underneath the acrylic. You need to get those nails off and get something for nail fungus quick!I have mold on some of my finger nails I wear Acrilic Nails. Why is that happening.?
Any shop that does nails can sell you a bottle of stuff to remove the mold, brush it on once or twice a day till the mold is gone, this happened because your nail lifted and moisture got under the fake nail
Mold can be caused by the nail techs not applying the acryllic properly. this can allow too much water to get in between the acryllic and natural nail.

At this point, if you don't remove the fake nails, you will damage your nails forever. Take the acryllics off and leave them off for about 3 months. In the mean time find a really good nail salon--(you have to pay a little more for the good stuff) and continue to get regular manicures --no acryllics--once week or once every two weeks.

You need to let your natural nails heal.
the reason y is because you've had them on too long, and water and air is making that happen... take them off for a couple of weeks and do it again!
First I would remove those nails or at least soak your nails in perxiode. Check when your getting your nails done that the nail implements are clean!! Call your nail tech.
I agree with Lady Bug. Get those nails off pronto! See a doctor if need be to take care of the mold.

If you insist on having (fake nails), make sure the place is spotless before using them. Never return to where you were/are going to.

I used to have my nails done every couple of weeks (I used gel), and I never had that problem. I stopped because my nails were getting weak. I prefer them short and strong. It also saves money.

    Good luck.

I wanna stop eating the skin around my finger nails?

i wanna stop even though i do enjoy it, i keep eatin them or pealing them with my fingers... :(I wanna stop eating the skin around my finger nails?
then stopI wanna stop eating the skin around my finger nails?
I used to do the same and its disgustttinnnggggg!! ive tried loads of things from the pharmacy and to be honest they dont work for me but everyones different.. try and stop on your own by looking at your hands and then thinking how much they would look better without biting it, and try and think why you do it then try and minimise those thoughts to stop doing it if possible.. wearing gloves also helps!!
Lol I chew mine! Eating and peeling no, but chewing is very entertaining. I didn't realise I wasn't the only one who chewed the skin instead of the nail lol. Well the best way is to set yourself a goal and reward system I think, because you can buy the stuff with the nasty taste designed to stop nail-biting, but people get used to the taste if they're that addicted. Maybe try chewing gum everytime you want to do it, and keeping some blue-tack to peel and roll? Reward yourself with something you like at the end of wach day/week you've managed not to do it.
they sell a kind of bitter nail polish (drug store usually sell it but you can order it) you can put it on your nails and the skin around them. it'll make them taste like $hit and it'll remind you not to eat your nasty skin.
I have this problem too. I apply nail polish, and it usually makes me stop and think before I absentmindedly pick at the skin around my nails. Seeing as you're a guy, there is clear nail polish you can get, but overall, it takes willpower. Try to think of something else, or become active in other things. You'll eventually forget that you had the urge to scratch at them.

I have mold on some of my finger nails I wear Acrilic Nails. Why is that happening.?

What is causing my nails to get mold on them. I am wearing fills.I have mold on some of my finger nails I wear Acrilic Nails. Why is that happening.?
You've gotten moisture trapped under your nails. You should really take them off and give them a chance to air out. Otherwise you run the risk of loosing your real nails :-( Your nail tech can be as sterile as she can but once they lift, it can occasionally happen, that you can get moisture trapped under there. You can find an OTC anti fungal liquid that will help keep it at bay as it is growing out. If it seems to be getting worse, definitely see a Dr.

I worked as a nail tech for 10 yrs and have seen lots of green come in the salon. Let it grow out before putting them back on again.

Good luck to you.I have mold on some of my finger nails I wear Acrilic Nails. Why is that happening.?
Your nails need to have air to breath. Take the fake ones off for a long time and let your real nalis get some air. See a doc about getting rid of the mold.
Yipes! take them off and see a DR, it sounds like whoever is doing them is NOT clean or you're not keeping them clean enough.
its a fungus under your nail. It could be the people that are doing your nails there instruments aren't clean.
You probably have nail fungus. It is contagious and a known nail-salon risk. You have to remove the nails and you should see a doctor. It is hard to get rid of fungal infections. You may have to take anti-fungal drugs.

In the future, you might want to consider learning how to do your own nails. You will save money and it is less risky.
My first reaction was one of revulsion. I'm not a big fan of acrylic nails and this reminds why. I suggest you soak your hands in some serious cleaner, peroxide, maybe even a little bleach. Then I would suggest you go to a reputable salon and get the whole mess removed. Yikes!! Good luck.
get them taken off as soon as possible. how long have you had them on?

i had acrylic nails and had them taken care of every two weeks and did not have a problem. maybe you need for your natural nails to breathe for a while.
omg omg oh my god!!! i heard bout that its dangerous!! u can get sick or have a serious infection even die!! take them off!!!!! and soak ur real nails in a bleach water solution!!! 1 cup water 1 tablespoon bleach!!!! u maybe went to a cheap crappy salon or i dont know but it is dangerous TAKE THEM OFF AND SOAK UR REAL NAILS!! KEEP THE FAKE NAILS OFF 4 LIKE 6 MONTHS! next time make sure they are clean and licensed
Moisture feeds mold. That may be it.
When you apply them, you need to make sure that your hands: nails, fingers, etc; are very clean. You also need to make sure that the acrylic nails and any insturments used to apply them are clean too, and that you allow them to dry fully before washing your hands or doing any activities.

It also doesn't hurt to lay off the fake nails for a while. If you wear them too often the chemicals from the glue can eat away at your natural nails, weakening them.
You should get those taken off right away, there likely was moisture under your nails when you got your fill. Please see a different nail technician as the other possibility is that the instruments your tech used were not sterile. Seriously this could affect your health have them taken off. Make sure the next person you see is licensed in the state you live in.
there might b water trapped inside of it or something that produces mold. when they get like that get new nails
You need to have them removed Now!!! That is very dangerous.Leave them off for at least six months are more.
it might be moisture. and the only real way to get rid of mold is using bleach (i don't suggest u do that). i suggestu get the nails taken off.

    thats what do.

    i also take vitamins.

    umm...jello?

    why would you suggest that...?

    its like pure sugar.?

why in the world would that make your nails grow????Ways to make your finger nails grow longer.?
    unfortunately.....its all genetics.

some people's nails are weaker and break quickly, some are stronger. No products can really make them grow longer or be stronger. But eat healthily, lots of vitamins etc and you might see an improvement

i can't grow mine very long before they break
Seriously, eat jello. It is good for your nails and will make them stronger. i think there is some sort of animal bone or cartilage in it that causes this.
I've heard that you stick your fingers into the gello (Jelly here in the UK)

What is the connection between having rounded finger and toe nails and needing a chest x ray?

    It is called Clubbing:

clubbing (or digital clubbing) is a deformity of the fingers and fingernails that is associated with a number of diseases, mostly of the heart and lungs. Idiopathic clubbing can also occur. Hippocrates was probably the first to document clubbing as a sign of disease, and the phenomenon is therefore occasionally called Hippocratic fingers.

    Clubbing develops in five steps:[1]

Fluctuation and softening of the nail bed (increased ballotability)

Loss of the normal %26lt;165掳 angle (';Lovibond angle';) between the nailbed and the fold (cuticula)

Increased convexity of the nail fold

Thickening of the whole distal finger (resembling a drumstick)

Shiny aspect and striation of the nail and skin

Schamroth's test or Schamroth's window test (originally demonstrated by South African cardiologist Dr Leo Schamroth on himself[2]) is a popular test for clubbing. When the distal phalanges of corresponding digits of opposite hands are directly apposed, fingernail to fingernail, a small diamond-shaped ';window'; is apparent between the nailbeds. If this window is obliterated, the test is positive and clubbing is present.

When clubbing is encountered in patients, doctors will seek to identify its cause. They usually accomplish this by obtaining a medical history鈥?particular attention is paid to lung, heart, and gastrointestinal conditions 鈥攁nd conducting a clinical examination, which may disclose associated features relevant to a diagnosis. Additional studies such as a chest x-ray may also be performed.

    Isolated clubbing

Clubbing in the fingers of a 33-year old female with pulmonary hypertension.Clubbing is associated with:

    Lung disease:

Lung cancer, mainly large-cell (35% of all cases), not seen frequently in small cell lung cancer[3]

    Interstitial lung disease

    Tuberculosis

    Bronchiectasis

Suppurative lung disease: lung abscess, empyema

    Cystic fibrosis

    Pulmonary hypertension

    Mesothelioma

    Heart disease:

    Any disease featuring chronic hypoxia

Congenital cyanotic heart disease (most common cardiac cause)

    Subacute bacterial endocarditis

    Atrial myxoma (benign tumor)

    Others:

    Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis

    Hyperthyroidism (thyroid acropachy)

Liver diseases (in the ';hepatopulmonary syndrome';, a complication of cirrhosis)[4]

    Malabsorption

Vascular anomalies of the affected arm (in unilateral clubbing)

Although many of these associations are recognised (such as the link with lung cancer), some are based on a few observations and might be false. Prospective studies of patients presenting with clubbing have not been performed, and hence there are no reliable numbers as to the distribution of the causes and the prognosis.

    [edit]

    HPOA

A special form of clubbing is hypertrophic pulmonary osteo-arthropathy, known in continental Europe as Pierre Marie-Bamberger syndrome. This is the combination of clubbing and thickening of periosteum (connective tissue lining of the bones) and synovium (lining of joints), and is often initially diagnosed as arthritis. It is associated almost exclusively with lung cancer. In dogs the condition is known as hypertrophic osteopathy.

    [edit]

    Primary HOA

Primary hypertrophic osteo-arthropathy is HPOA without signs of pulmonary disease. This form has a hereditary component, although subtle cardiac abnormalties can occasionally be found. It is known in continental Europe as the Touraine-Solente-Gol茅 syndrome.

    [edit]

    Pathophysiology

Even though clubbing is a well established physical finding in many diseases, the physiological mechanism that actually causes clubbing is not well established. Current understanding is that these diseases cause vasodilation in the distal circulation which leads to hypertrophy of the tissue of the nailbeds and thus to the clubbed fingernails.

Other factors that have been implicated are secretion of growth factors (such as hepatocyte growth factor) by pathologic lesions.

I hopr this helpsWhat is the connection between having rounded finger and toe nails and needing a chest x ray?
in addition to what astrid2x said, lack of O2 to the extremities can be from a heart issue, thus the CXR...What is the connection between having rounded finger and toe nails and needing a chest x ray?
What in Gods name are you on about?
I think you're probably describing a condition called ';clubbing'; of the nails. It can be a sign that you aren't getting enough oxygen to your extremities.
Clubbed fingers usually indicates either a chest illness or liver disease.
Um, none?! Rounded nails are how you style them.....what a strange question!
If your nails naturally curve downwards (like claws) indicate that you have a lung problem. This is not an old wives' tale, it is true. A friend of mine has got to see a lung specialist, but before, she had to fill in a form for the hospital and it had a question in it that asked her about whether her nails are claw-like or straight. I always thought it was just a hear say but when I saw the question in the NHS questionnaire I was stunned.
strange is not a word to describe this question.

Why can't you wear dark nail polish on the index fingers when getting your wisdom teeth pulled?

I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled and the dentist gave me a pre-operative instructions list. On the list one of the lines states that you should ';avoid dark nail polish on both index fingers.'; Why is this? Why can't you wear dark nail polish on the index fingers when getting your wisdom teeth pulled?
they press the nails to see how quickly it goes from pink to white to check your oxygen. If you were to have surgery on a limb they would tell you to take it off your toes. Its to insure your safety. Why can't you wear dark nail polish on the index fingers when getting your wisdom teeth pulled?
That is because if they put you to sleep for the procedure, they will put an small sensor on your index finger to monitor your oxygen level. Those sensors don't always read very well through dark nail polish.
in case they need to check how well you're perfusing oxygen. honestly, it doesn't make a difference what color you wear because there are more modern ways to check. when in doubt, ask your surgeon.
They need to see the color of your nail beds and make sure your getting enough Oxygen.
    cause your dentists a wierdo
